State of the Podcast: Where the Hell Have We Been?

Drew here. I just wanted to give an update.

It seems like, no matter what we try, we can't keep a weekly podcast going. And it's entirely my fault. Six months ago, I took a desk job that requires 45 hours of my time per week; and then I've been spending my evenings chasing one of my real passions, voice-over production.  Luckily, I've been getting some good VO gigs that are keeping me busy (and paid), but there are literally zero hours left in my day.

This is frustrating to me because, while voice over production is a passion, it's not really a creative outlet.  I have to produce things exactly the way my clients want them if I want to be successful; there's just no getting around that.

Podcasting (and my more recent foray into video game streaming) has always been a great way for me to be creative and have fun, while still feeling like I'm ultimately accomplishing something worthwhile.  Needless to say, I was upset that the podcast was falling by the wayside after starting my new job; so when Dan suggested changing the format of the show to a weekly "Daredevil" discussion, I loved the idea.  We wouldn't have to struggle to develop topics for each show, because we would always be talking about the next "Daredevil" episode.  Brilliant!

Unfortunately, "Daredevil" being a Netflix exclusive, the entire season was released at once; so nobody really cared about us watching and discussing an episode every week, because everyone besides us had long since binge-watched the whole thing.  And with listenership at an all-time low, I quickly got discouraged and devoted what little spare time I had every week to my paid VO work instead.

Again, though, I've found myself without any creative juices flowing.  Quite a conundrum.

I'm not exactly sure what the future holds for our podcast, other than the fact that I'm not ready to give up on it.  Maybe we could make it a longer, monthly show.  Maybe we could change the subject matter to make topics easier to come by.  I honestly don't know yet...

What I do know is that an 8-to-5 job is definitely not for me.  What I do know is that I want to be my own boss, have my own clients, and make my own schedule.  And what I definitely know is that I need to make some changes in my life.

My ultimate goal is that those changes make me enough money to pay the bills, while leaving me enough time to actually enjoy my life.  There's no reason I can't have my cake, and eat it too.

So stay tuned; 'cause one way or another, we're gonna figure this out.

Let's Talk "Daredevil" Episode 2

Marvel / Netflix
We're back with our discussion of Marvel's "Daredevil" on Netflix!  We watched episode 2 this week, and now we're gonna talk about it!

Are you watching along with us, or did you binge watch the entire season already?  What do you think of the series (NO SPOILERS)?  Let us know in the comments.

Let's Watch "Daredevil" Together

Marvel / Netflix
Oh yes, we're still here.

First and foremost, it's entirely my fault we've been away for so long.  I decided we needed to streamline the show, but I wasn't exactly sure how.  Then Dan came up with a great idea, and we're running with it!

We're gonna watch "Daredevil" on Netflix, then talk about it!  We'll do one episode a week; and once we're through the season, we'll find something else (to watch, play, etc.).  It's gonna be awesome.

Feel free to watch along with us, and post your thoughts in the comments.

Let's do this!

Episode 23: Do You Need More Than One Streaming Service?

Time for me to eat some crow.  I know I said I would never have more than one streaming video service; but when that second service comes with music and free shipping, well...

The Barenaked Ladies once sang "Buy buy buy buy, sell sell sell, how well you've learned to not discern who's foe and who is friend, we'll own them all in the end."  Turns out, that's pretty much happening.

Episode 13: Premium TV Channels Going DIGITAL!?

Not more than two days after we did last weeks show, news came out that HBO programming would be available on Amazon Prime.  So we picked up with that this week.  Also, we had a chuckle about excavators finding "E.T." in a landfill.  Enjoy!

Why I'm Second Guessing Digital Downloads

The technological advancements we've made in TV, movie and video game delivery is astounding. I remember growing when CDs and DVDs were starting to become the standards for how content was delivered. "What will they think of next?" The answer, was delivering the content on literally nothing. We pull this stuff out of thin air these days, and I love it. I am a huge advocate for digital downloading, and I am convinced it is the future. However, this one colossal downside is ruing everything for me...

Episode 12: Trendy Tech

Hope you had a great Easter...or fertility festival...or generic Sunday! We joked briefly last week about curved TV's, and it spawned an entire episode about home entertainment tech: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Enjoy the episode, in all it multi-format glory (i.e. YouTube version above and high-quality audio-only version below).

Also, a reminder: we do the show LIVE on Google Hangouts On-Air nowadays, so add me on Google+ to see when we'll be broadcasting. :)

Netflix VS. Hulu VS. Amazon - Take Our Poll!

These days, it's possible to see just about any TV show or movie there is without ever ordering cable, or in most cases, leaving your home. Just subscribing to one of the three main services (Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime) should hold you over for a very long time if you're looking for something to watch.

What's the one awful thing about all of these companies...?

Episode 11: The Podcast RETURNS!

It's time for the triumphant return of the Drew & Dan Digress podcast!

A lot's happened in the last six months (good lord, that's a long time), and we were forced to put the podcast on the back burner while life sorted itself out.  But now we're back, and here to stay!

And as a nifty new feature, you can now enjoy the episode in multiple ways!  Either in video form (above) or high quality audio-only (below).  SHOW NOTES:
